Matt Smith is an Associate focused on M&A, financing and other transactions in the healthcare sector, as well as other healthcare compliance and regulatory matters.

Experience

Matt Smith advises private equity investors, healthcare companies, and providers on complex regulatory and transactional matters. His practice focuses on structuring healthcare transactions and operations to ensure regulatory compliance, with deep experience in mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, and corporate reorganizations.

Matt provides strategic counsel on a wide range of healthcare regulatory issues, including corporate structuring, telehealth compliance, reimbursement matters involving commercial payors, Medicare, and Medicaid, as well as state licensing and enforcement risks. He regularly advises on fraud and abuse laws, including the Federal Anti-Kickback Statute, the Stark Law, and the False Claims Act.

His clients span the healthcare spectrum, from private equity-backed healthcare platforms and emerging digital health companies to retail and long-term care pharmacies, hospitals, ambulatory surgery centers, home health and hospice providers, and physician practice groups. Matt partners with clients to navigate regulatory complexities and mitigate risk in high-stakes transactions and operational strategies.

Before joining Massumi + Consoli, Matt practiced healthcare law at Goodwin Procter. Prior to law school, he worked in a business role at a medical device and healthcare IT startup. Matt maintains the same practical, business-oriented perspective in his legal practice.
